Overthinking things is one of his specialties. What the Fool says next is too important to respond with a sly quip, and Devin has been trying to get out of his habit of deflecting when he's around his lover anyway.
"Nor am I," he says, probably needlessly. Devin considers himself incredibly fortunate that the Fool wants him; his desire to conceal their relationship is rooted in other fears, and in a generally private lifestyle. Granted, being exposed to the judgement of their acquaintances is not a thrilling prospect but he has thick skin. Hopefully, he can extend it into this area of his life.
"Alright," Devin concedes with a wan smile, brushing his thumb over the Fool's knuckles. "I suppose there is something to be said for safety in numbers, in any case." Perhaps the Fool's friends will consider keeping him happy a greater priority than nailing Devin to a wall for bringing trouble and fish entrails to his doorstep. His lover will assuredly use that clever tongue of his on them, if necessary.
He lowers his eyes to where their hands are joined. "Letting people see this-- us will take some getting used to," Devin amends. He does his best not to grimace, and sighs at himself. "For a few reasons. I'll try not to seem too... distant, in public," he promises quietly.
