every once in a while I'd sing a song for you (open)

Characters: Zohvin and you!
Date: Early to mid December
Location: Within Aifaran
Situation: Zohvin makes a failed attempt at shopping, then does some training and volunteers for a good cause. If you'd like any other prompts just ask!
Warnings/Rating: Nothing yet.

A. Holiday Shopping
Despite what every Dreamfolk is told when they arrive, about time not passing in their own worlds without them, it's hard to shake off the instinct to count the days and weeks. By Zohvin's reckoning, it should be time for Life Day celebrations to start, and a few of those familiar customs seem to be practiced on this planet as well.

If it were Life Day, he'd need to find a gift for Vacarius, and with that in mind he let his steps lead him along with the crowds in and out of various stores that were decked out for the holidays. Vacarius had never asked for much - he was a simple man, and nearly any sort of comforts he wanted were already well within his reach - but he did have a fondness for certain items. He favored interesting trinkets, like things from museums or holographic displays of planets. But though Zohvin looked, and even asked a couple of employees, he couldn't find a model globe of the planet or even so much as a picture of it.

He finally came out of one shop with a map. It wasn't a large map, just an artist's rendition of the archipelago dotted with illustrations of interesting landmarks. Zohvin stepped out of the last shop looking a little disgruntled, holding the rolled-up map in one hand. Why had he bought the damn thing? There was no point in buying a gift for someone that wasn't here, and what's more, it wasn't even something that Zohvin could use.

B. The Dojo
Normally Zohvin only came to the dojo twice a week, but this month he's been showing up a little more often. Training was one of the best cures he had for an overactive mind - the exertion centered him even better than his lousy attempts at meditation had managed to do for months before he'd arrived here.

His training today follows the same routine it always does. He comes to the dojo in loose clothes with his hair tied back, pays the fee, then spends some time stretching in a quiet corner before starting in on his own personal training routine. It's mostly Jedi techniques that were old even in his time, with some Echani martial arts thrown in for good measure. Built more for agility than he is for strength, Zohvin falls into the forms like it's all part of a well-practiced dance, particularly when he switches to using his electrostaff for the rest of his routine.

C. Sandbagging
It was purely physical and often dirty work, but when the call had gone out, Zohvin had volunteered without complaint. As it turned out, filling sandbags felt a little like going through the repetitive training he'd done at the Jedi academy. There was something oddly soothing about falling into a rhythm of shoveling sand, and he's a bit sore by the end of his first day on the job, but the contentment of getting good work done was a great balm for it.

Zohvin hadn't expected the free meals to be quite so nice, but it was certainly welcome. As the volunteers stopped for their last break, he took a slice of a colorful casserole and a nearly pastel purple drink with the consistency of a milkshake, finding a quiet place to sit and wipe the dirt off of his face with a towel before digging in.
