I can hear the glowing!
Characters: Gene Khan, Miles Upshur, Aly Haskell, Kai, and y'all
Date: throughout January
Location: Aifaran and environs
Situation: dummies bein dumb
Warnings/Rating: Will be added as they arise
[A] | Gene | Pepper's Townhouse | January 2 | closed to Pepper
It had happened again, and Gene was surprised to find out that he hurt, too. Not as much as Pepper, of course; never as much as Pepper. But he'd come to call Bakura friend, despite their initial history, and losing one of the few friends he had - not to mention family by proxy - always hurt.
Which is why Gene is outside Pepper and Bakura's - no, Pepper's - townhouse, knocking on the door. She'll need to see a friendly face, because he remembers how she was last time Bakura disappeared into the Dreaming. She would do the same for him...and had.
[B] | Gene | Valdis' place | early January | closed to Valdis
Since Bakura had disappeared and Pepper would naturally be loath to talk about this kind of thing, this left Valdis as the only other person Gene could talk to about his ka. They'd never discussed it much before outside of merely having kaa, but she'd had hers longer than he'd had Tolui, and he needed some help or at the very least encouragement. He recognized and accepted the ka as part of him, but it didn't change the fact that it still felt weird - and that Tolui was difficult to summon. Gene was pretty sure that he was subconsciously resisting the ka manifesting, but he wasn't sure how to stop it.
"Valdis? Are you home?"
[C] | Miles | Valdis' place | January 3 | closed to Valdis
Valdis had helped Miles through whatever had struck him during the storm. People were beginning to diagnose the effect as something involving the Dreaming, which made too much sense. He just wished that he could catch a fucking break for once and, you know, not go insane. Was that too much too ask?
Anyway, he supposed that he ought to go and see her and thank her for helping him out. Plus, he had a small Christmas present for her. Like a "thanks for helping me not go insane and also we're working together so I guess I should get you something" present. He knocked on her door and waited, rocking back and forth on his heels.
[D] | Aly | near a collapsed building | early January | open
Even though she'd been trying to keep it a secret, Aly had transformed into her maned wolf form to act as a search and rescue dog. She tried not to do it in front of people - 'cause it was gross and it hurt and it took a minute or two - but she'd been picking through the rubble for two straight days. At least she could feel that it hurt to transform. Losing her sense of touch had been deeply disturbing.
Right now she's sitting on the ground as a human, drinking some water, and thanking all the gods that she hasn't had to go near a drowned building yet.
[E] | Kai | Ban Om temple | early January | open
Kai doesn't really understand religion. There wasn't much of any kind back in Inkopolis, and even if she had been exposed to it, she wouldn't get it anyway. She gets what's concrete, and the numinous isn't something that really jives with her worldview.
And one priest is finding out that explaining why worshiping the turtles makes sense is like trying to explain nuclear physics to a tomato.
"Okay, so...I don't get it," she says sheepishly to the kedan, who looks exasperated. "What do the turtles do aside from be the land? How does, uh, praying to them help?"
