Trahearne sets his jaw rather than respond to Devin's offer to continue the fight. There's a part of him that's tempted to take him up on it, but he is at least starting to realize that this wasn't the time, nor the hour, to continue making more bad decisions.

At least once the vampire is gone, he feels like he can breathe a little easier. Trahearne takes a brief moment to look over the damage done to the room - thankfully, just the hole in the wall - before turning to start picking up the pile of books from the table next to his chair, one by one.

"It was never my intention to involve anyone else in the first place, bystander or not. I realize now that my judgment was poor. I'm sorry for dragging you all out of your beds at this hour." That was directed to the people in the hallway as well as Klaus. Trahearne knew that they were likely still listening in.
