He was bad at apologies (for any number of reasons, lack of experience being one of them), and good at disappointing people. It wouldn't surprise him to know she was one of them.

Making blunt what he'd been tip-toeing around didn't surprise him, either. Devin stifled the knee-jerk urge to snap at her, because that was what had gotten them into this mess in the first place. So, he took a breath, and another, and forced himself to not look away.
