Characters: Konoe, X, Zephyr
Date: Before July 10th, after visions have been going for awhile
Location: Room 5 of Breakwater Wing
Situation: Konoe is not having fun with the serial visions, and unfortunately X and Zephyr are roommates with a very upset empath.

~Zephyr~

Any time that Zephyr was there at the same time as Konoe, he'd always be a lump under the blankets like the first time they met. This time was no different. However, Konoe was awakened by the sound of movement and peeked his head out from under the blanket. Wierdly enough, he was relieved to see the blonde human there despite not knowing each other well.

Konoe sat up gingerly. "Am I the only one seeing things?"
Not being very personable, he never thought to ask before.

It had also taken a bit for Konoe to realize there was another person now living in the room with him. Normally he'd be able to tell by scent and observing, but he'd spent the last couple of weeks in almost a daze. Konoe didn't like new people, so when someone entered the room that wasn't Zephyr, Konoe stiffened and went back to hiding under the blankets, where X would occasionally see amber eyes peeking at him.

X learned about the infestation of small creatures in the Quayside Wing when he tried to go home one morning and wasn't allowed inside.

In the time since, with two new roommates and a new room to avoid sleeping in, X hasn't even met the roommate he doesn't know. They've been in the room at the same time, if the lump in the blankets of the far bed is any indication, but X doesn't push an introduction. That, he knows, isn't the right way of handling it.

It's a few visits on when he sits on his bed and looks over to see a pair of amber eyes just over the edge of the blanket. X returns the look with a gentle smile, then glances away. "Hello," he says. "Is it cold in here?"

The eyes quickly vanished as the lump on the bed moved slightly. There was the tip of a crooked tail sticking out from underneath the blanket and it was twitching slightly as long as Konoe was aware of a person in his vicinity.

Now he was talking; this is the first time he heard the man speak, and for some reason Konoe was irritated at the almost amusement he can sense. "Why do you want to know?"

The tail was intriguing, if that... was indeed a tail. X was no stranger to cat shifters in his own world, but he'd never met someone who could be both cat and humanoid at the same time.

"You're buried in the bed," X pointed out mildly. "You're either cold, or you're scared, and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt."

"I'm not scared," Konoe said hotly, a big fat lie. It wasn't that he was scared of this man in particular, but he had too many feelings and didn't want anyone seeing him like this. Still, his curiosity was too much for him and kept occasionally staring out at X.

He knew that being alone probably was making it worse, but Konoe couldn't trust anyone. He certainly couldn't trust anyone he just finally met today. Talking to Zephyr was already pushing it.

Hm. How young was Konoe? X felt forcibly reminded of when the twins were a little younger, and admitting to fear was tantamount to treason. Kids couldn't admit when they were having trouble. Cats, apparently, were no different.

"Then you must be cold," X replied. "Anything I can do to help? Another blanket?" He glanced over at the swaddled lump in the bed, and hummed in thought. "A heated blanket?"

He was 18-technically an adult-but that didn't matter. At his size everyone would mistake him for a kitten. However, any protest about the cold was immediately thrown aside by what X had said.

"There are....heated blankets?" Konoe asked, actually coming out of his lump on the bed. He knew that Two Canes had some amazing inventions but to have a blanket infused with heat that didn't require fire...."Can I get one of those."

Well, at least he was successfully distracted.

Now that was a promising reaction. X tried his best not to ruin it by sounding amused or, worse, indulgent.

"You know, I have no idea," he said. "They're common enough where I come from, but they use external power that I don't think exists here. I can always track one down if you don't have anywhere to be for the next few hours, though."

"I can...get something myself. I don't need your help. What would you even want from me anyway?" Konoe couldn't think of anything, since apparently new people all got money, and otherwise, the man didn't look like he needed for anything.

Over time, Zephyr's learned to just accept the lump in the blankets and not necessarily poke it. Either he sees Konoe, or he doesn't, and Konoe gets to decide when he feels like coming out.

At the question, Zephyr looks over. He's midway through patching a torn shirt, and his needle stills for a few moments. "What kind of things?" he wants to know. "Because there's some things you should be seeing in any case." Like roommates, and Aifaran.

Konoe just gave Zephyr an exasperated look. Now he was reminding Konoe of Rai, and in not such a good way. "Idiot. I mean visions. Seeing things about people you don't even know."

His tail also thumped once on the bed for emphasis, but as long as Zephyr seemed to be doing something harmless.....Konoe shed the blanket and began to do some much needed grooming.

Zephyr's mouth twitched at this, and he didn't argue with the epithet. "Yeah, that's been happening."

The tail-thump made him glance up, and he watched Konoe start in on his grooming for a few moments before going back to his patching. "Far as I can tell, almost all Dreamfolk have been. You sure you don't want a brush or a comb or something? They're not expensive."

"I already told you I'm just fine grooming myself!" Konoe's tone resembled that of a kid telling off a parent for trying to help him, plus a little bit of minor hissing.

"And that doesn't answer anything. I don't want to keep getting woken up by the pain of a person dying," he finished around licking his tail.

Zephyr held up his free hand, as if to say peace, and promptly put it back down to steady his stitches.

"I don't know what to tell you on that one," he said, probably too dismissively. "I don't think there's much we can do besides weather it." And then his brain caught up to his mouth, and he looked up once more, violet eyes sharp. "Yours died?"

Konoe continued to groom, but his ears folded back at Zephyr's sharp gaze. "I don't know. I can't tell from all the pain and confusion. There's too much. I'm not sure if he even knows if he's alive or not."

It was terrifying enough for him to wake up in the middle of the night and think that his leg was broken or gone, much less try to make sense of the visions that incapacitated him.

"Shit." Zephyr looked troubled over that, gaze drifting a little aside from Konoe and going distant. "The vision I had-- wasn't like that. She was just lost and unnerved."

He... maybe wouldn't upset Konoe further with the mention of the reappearing grave.

"Wish I could help," he said finally, and he sounded like he meant it this time, wasn't dismissing things. "I could try something, if you're asleep and I'm awake next time one of these hits, but I can't guarantee it'll work. ... Want tea?"

Lippy seemed to have something right, that tea was good for most situations.

Konoe didn't answer for a minute, still staring down at the arm he was supposed to groom. His leg throbbed in remembrance of the visions, and he tried to shake off the foreboding feeling again.

"His leg kept breaking. Sometimes it wasn't even when I was sleeping. It STILL hurts. It's not supposed to, right?"

"Hard to tell. Sometimes dreams linger longer than they should." Zephyr picked his head up again to eye Konoe with more thoughtfulness this time. "I can take a look if you want. If there's any lingering magic, I can get rid of that, at least. Dreams... dreams I can't do anything about."

But hey, worth a shot, right? Only if Konoe isn't going to scratch him about it, though.
