'Cause fear don't haunt the madness | November Catch-all
Characters: Pepper Potts, Devin Parker, and you!
Date: Throughout November
Location: All over the city
Situation: Pepper is shopping and making friends with moth swarms, and Devin is having criminal trouble.
Warnings/Rating: In headers as needed
A. [Pepper] Commerce 4 | Open
Having recently made a new friend in Kai and slowly but surely increasing the gaggle of people interested in shopping, Pepper goes to check out a few new markets that she hasn't explored yet. Honestly, she wasn't planning on buying anything today (although realistically she'd probably come home with something, even if it was just a treat for her and Bakura, or for Gene and Tony), but then she finds out there's a tax holiday. Apparently, some of the merchants are taking advantage of this to also have small sales and boost traffic even further.
"Time to do some gift shopping," she declares with a grin, chatting up one of the artisans. "Do you know if Christmas is even a thing here? Tropical islands don't really do winter, do they."
B. [Pepper] Meta 3 | Open
With beach weather being practically year-round, Pepper really should make an effort to spend time by the ocean more. After a busy day of work, she's allowed to leave the Sentry a little early and swings by one of the small beaches not far from the townhouse. The sun is starting to go down and as the light fades there are suddenly a lot of moth-firefly things appearing in her face. Like a lot. At least they're pretty and none of them take nibble when they happen to land on her.
"Okay, seriously guys, what's the deal," she asks the insects, laughing.
C. [Devin] Arts 3 | Valdis | Mid-November
On his way to work, someone brushed past Devin in the street and for a moment he thought he was getting pickpocketed again. The vampire was about to grab the thief when he realized it was the reverse - something had been dropped into his pocket. A rather ugly piece of art, if it could be called that, and not one he was familiar with. Shrugging, he put it away and did a little research once he reached the library, only to discover that he was in the possession of poorly-made satirical contraband. Great.
As soon as his shift was over, Devin headed to see Valdis and turn the item over. He requested her specifically and was told to wait in the lobby. He sat and immediately took up the affectation of extreme boredom, just in case anyone thought his presence suspicious.
D. [Devin] Crime 1 | The Fool | Mid-November
Devin usually spends more nights at the Fool's apartment than his own on any given week, and apparently someone has noticed. He steps outside one morning to run an errand only to find that someone has dumped fish chum on the cafe doorstep. This wouldn't ping anything of interest except for the fact that more fish guts are thrown at his head a moment later. The vampire dodges instinctively, saving his clothing from from being ruined, but the culprit evades him. Too many people, too many shapeshifters, and in any case he's more concerned by the fact that he's being targeted here of all places.
He heads back upstairs immediately, looking appropriately harassed. "I am finding myself considerably glad that you work with a brick wall of a man," he grumbles. "I cannot wait for these protests to be over."
E. [Devin] Die Rosa Tulpe | Yuuko/Open
Although it would be inaccurate to say Devin has practically moved into the Fool's apartment, he does frequent Klaus' cafe most days. At least some of the time, Devin purchases a drink rather than just lingering. It would be rude, for one, and Klaus also has the most consistent source of Earth-brand coffee in the city and knows how to brew a proper cup of tea. That's worth savoring over a good book every once in a while. An added (and unintentional) bonus: this gives him something else to say if anyone asks why he's spending a lot of time here.
F. [Devin] X's medical facility | Early November | Zephyr
When Devin learned that X had fallen into a coma, he was equally concerned and at a loss of what to do. Obviously, X in a coma is not a good thing. What caused it and what might happen when he wakes are questions that Devin doesn't have an answer for, although he has some theories. Probably it has nothing to do with X reading Valdis or Devin, but the thought is there however illogical it is. If only to get more information from the medical staff, Devin goes to visit the reader on one of his days off.
Much to his chagrin, X has another visitor. The staff member who takes him to X seems very happy that the reader has so many friends and tells him to take his time. Devin occupies the threshold to X's room and steps no further.
"Still on guard duty, I see."

Which is a sad commentary; but Zephyr's going to ignore that part right now. It's not necessarily that he thinks something more is going to happen to X -- probably -- well, maybe -- it's just that he still doesn't know if this is his fault or not, and it gets a little lonely, just kind of existing alone in their shared space.
Even if he's totally fine.

"And here I thought it couldn't get more destitute than mine," the vampire remarks, stepping properly inside the room so he can lean back against the adjacent wall. Lately, Devin's social life has been positively packed by comparison, seeing as he has a partner and other people who insist on making sure he eats and spends time on something other than work. "It seems I'll be passing off another title to you, then."
His eyes turn to X. The reader looks... peaceful, he supposes. Comas tend to do that. "Did you bring him here?"
no subject
"Yeah," he says, letting his chair legs down to the floor and crossing one leg over the other. "We're living together, so I found him. Out cold."
He opts not to specify anything about his nagging fears.
"So I'm hanging out for a while. Look, I even see other people." This is accompanied by a short jerk of his chin at Devin, vaguely amused.
no subject
"I am not sure it counts as seeing other people if I just happened to show up." The comment isn't as critical as it could be.
Silence between them is rapidly going to become awkward, and in any case he has another query on X's behalf (or so he will tell himself). "Have you been here the whole time since?"
no subject
Even though he definitely, totally is. Look, he's got about one friend here, all right?
"Not the whole time," Zephyr says. He tips his chair back for a moment again, thinks better of it, lets it drop down with a thud. "Food, jobs, sleep... y'know, human things." Which he is totally a human and doing. What he's not saying is that the sleep sometimes -- often -- mostly happens in this chair.
no subject
He arches an eyebrow. "Human things," the Englishman echoes, faintly curious. Not something he usually hears humans themselves say, but he'll grant that doesn't mean much around here. Humans and non-humans alike come in every shape and color of the rainbow in this city. "So, literally all of your time outside of the necessary requirements to live is spent with someone currently unresponsive," he concludes, lightly tapping the wall with his fingertips. "Seeing as you're roommates, I don't think I have to tell you what X would have to say about that. But I will if I have to; I just won't be as nice about it. You've been forewarned."
no subject
"Yep, human things." Zephyr nods a firm agreement. In retrospect that was bad phrasing, but it's absolutely too late to back down now. He watches Devin's fingers tap, and after a few further moments rolls his eyes. "Pass, thanks. I live with him on purpose. You, not so much."
Is this going to prevent him from getting an earful? He's about to find out.
no subject
There. He's done lecturing. Probably.
Head tilt. "Humans don't call their behavior 'human things', just like I don't call my behavior 'vampire things'. You're not human either, are you?"
no subject
He hasn't done much of those, of late. Too much thinking time.
For the rest, though, he wasn't expecting Devin to actually call him on that. Zephyr's expression goes flat, unimpressed. "I was being ironic," he returns, at least half to see if Devin will accept it. "You've heard of sarcasm, I assume."
