A. just call him the hairdo-ruiner (meta 2)
[Why hello, someone who's passing by this terrace. You may suddenly feel the wind picking up once you get within a certain distance of this kid leaning against the chest-high fence. The wind seems to be circling him, in fact, while he stares speculatively at his palm.]

Heh... This doesn't suit me at all.

[He turns around to see a couple of Aifarans fast-walking away from him. ...Whoops.]

 

B. now how will he consume cat pictures (sci-tech 2)
[He doesn't know why, how, or when, but for some reason or other his yimo handset has been acting up, has been from practically the moment he got it, but no one he's talked to seems to know what's wrong.]

[So it isn't exactly a surprise that the next time he tries to get it fixed, he spots technicians ducking down behind their terminals or running behind the nearest wall.]

Ah...this sucks... [He shakes his yimo, like that'll help.]

 

C. mirage of nightmare (faith 5)
[He was ambushed. There he was, minding his own business, when several someones come running up to him, insisting he lead one of their functions. Inspire it, they say. Lead by example, they say.]

[—And suddenly he looks very uncomfortable. Halp?]

[ Conan takes a moment to call out some apologies, before continuing to chase after his ball. In a direction that just happened to follow after Judai. Once well out of sight, Conan traps the ball under his foot and kneels down to pick it up. ]

You did that on purpose, didn't you? [Judai cheerfully plops down on nearby stairs.]

Thanks for that, anyway. I'm Judai.

[He snickers a little.] They caught me by surprise! I guess I have them to thank for letting me see such a cool trick of yours, though.

You looked like you wanted an excuse to get out of there. [ There wasn't much point in denying it.]

Nice to meet you. I'm Conan. And it wasn't really a trick. I just like soccer.

[eyeinfusion]

Don't be so modest! You really saved me back there.

[Granted, he might have recovered enough to come up with something himself eventually, but someone helping him out makes him really grateful.]

You were pretty handy with that. Do you do it often? [Playing soccer is different from creating a distraction with it, after all.]

Mmm, I played a lot back home.

[Both playing actual soccer, and using his kicking accuracy to take out criminals. It was a surprisingly useful skill. ]

[He's certain he's seen some places where people could get a game going.]

Do you have someone to play with?

"I haven't checked everywhere, but I think it's likely that the people here don't know it. They have their own sports, after all." He shrugs. "So I've mostly just been practicing on my own."

Sounds rough!

You're aiming to play professionally, or is it not that kind of thing?

"I like soccer, but I don't want to play professionally." He could have. When he'd quit the school soccer team after middle school, he'd been perfectly aware of what opportunities he'd been giving up.

"I'm going to be a detective."

[eyeinfusion]

"A detective, huh? Sounds like you know what you want out of life."

He leans back on the steps. It doesn't look like the overenthusiastic people have caught wind of where Judai and Conan had gone, so he relaxes a bit.

"Did you have to leave it behind when you were brought here?"

"Did I have to leave what behind?"

There's something slightly off about Judai's smile as he elaborates. "That dream of yours."

[spoilsfun]

"Of course not. A detective is someone that seeks the truth. That's something that is needed no matter where are."

In Tu Shanshu Conan had even joined the local police force as an assistant detective. (Even if nearly everyone had treated him more like a department mascot.)

[eyeinfusion]

"Heh, good to hear! It's good to have ideals, yeah?"

Conscious, determined ideals, that is. Suddenly, he laughs at himself for such a short moment that it could be mistaken for a sneeze, and hops to his feet.

"Wanna play for a bit?"

Conan didn't have any plans for the rest of the day, so he nods and starts to stand up again.

"There's a park near the housing they gave us that is about the right size."

And going there would get them further away, just in case.

[eyeinfusion]

"It's a plan!"

He's about to head there, when he hesitates.

"I don't know if they could tell I'm a Dreamperson. They wouldn't go looking at Dreamfolk housing, would they?"

Because honestly, he has no idea. He's never dealt with that kind of enthusiasm before, not personally.

"If they follow you all the way back to housing, you probably have a bigger problem."

[eyeinfusion]

"Heh. Probably." He used to live in a dorm, so he used to be easy to find if someone stood outside his dorm building and called his name. (It was kind of a small building.) But he supposes that he would have to do something anyway, if those religious guys persisted. But he'd...rather not.

"Let's just be really sneaky!"

[spoilsfun]

"Or we could just walk there normally," Conan points out. "Sometimes being sneaky is more suspicious than just blending in with everyone else."

"Aw, but that's not as fun!"

So saying, he starts walking. (No attempted sneaking involved. Which is probably for the best.)

"You know how to sneak from your detective work?"

[spoilsfun]

"Mmm, something like that. Knowing the tricks of tailing someone without being noticed is basic knowledge for a detective."

Although what Conan considered basic knowledge and what normal detectives considered basic knowledge were not always the same thing.

He laughs a little. "Sounds pretty scary. You've trained a lot, huh?"

Pretty accomplished for someone so young!

...Wait. "Uh... Huh." One of his best friends is a bit on the short side, and he realizes belatedly that he has no idea— "How old are you?"

"Mmm, there's a lot to learn when you want to be a detective. So I started early. At home I'm a detective's assistant, and I also help the police."

Mostly because he just happened to be in the right place and right time to be a witness to the majority of crimes in his district of Tokyo.

"I'm seven years old," he says cheerfully. "Back home I'm in the first grade."

"It's good to know what you want to be." He means that super sincerely, too, even though Conan is...kind of...way younger than Judai thought he was.

"You're pretty accomplished! Do you do exciting things, too, at least?" He considers excitement to be pretty important in anything anyone wants to do!

"Mmm, sometimes! A lot of unexpected things can happen on cases."

Conan, the master of understatement.
