Characters: Judai and YOU
Date: Feb 16-21
Location: around Aifaran
Situation: trying out his Talent, trying to get his yimo fixed, getting ambushed
Warnings/Rating: n/a
A. just call him the hairdo-ruiner (meta 2)
[Why hello, someone who's passing by this terrace. You may suddenly feel the wind picking up once you get within a certain distance of this kid leaning against the chest-high fence. The wind seems to be circling him, in fact, while he stares speculatively at his palm.]
Heh... This doesn't suit me at all.
[He turns around to see a couple of Aifarans fast-walking away from him. ...Whoops.]
B. now how will he consume cat pictures (sci-tech 2)
[He doesn't know why, how, or when, but for some reason or other his yimo handset has been acting up, has been from practically the moment he got it, but no one he's talked to seems to know what's wrong.]
[So it isn't exactly a surprise that the next time he tries to get it fixed, he spots technicians ducking down behind their terminals or running behind the nearest wall.]
Ah...this sucks... [He shakes his yimo, like that'll help.]
C. mirage of nightmare (faith 5)
[He was ambushed. There he was, minding his own business, when several someones come running up to him, insisting he lead one of their functions. Inspire it, they say. Lead by example, they say.]
[—And suddenly he looks very uncomfortable. Halp?]

[He can't really pinpoint what the problem was, himself. Audio issues, slow connections, unresponsive buttons, sudden app terminations...the list goes on. The only conclusion he can come to is that something's wrong with the device itself.]
[Not like he's a tech person or anything, though, so he holds out his yimo.] Want to give it a shot? But! You're not allowed to hide from me later.
no subject
Then you could work here in tech support and no malfunctions would occur?
[Joking, of course. But Tenn is intrigued; he’s heard enough strange stories around Opara Core not to dismiss it. Either way, he is here to add his perspective. So he nods and accepts the yimo.]
I won't. List the errors, please, in the order they occurred if possible.
no subject
[But at the request, he, uh.] Um... [He scratches his head. Sheepish, he continues—] I don't remember the order. But things were shutting off and stuff...things were glitching, and there were weird sounds. Also it was being kind of slow randomly! Not all at once, though.
[So yeah, helpful.
Maybe that's the real reason people were running away from him.] Think you can do something with that?no subject
General hardware malfunctions then?
[Tenn switches on the unit. So far so good… he’ll keep asking questions while he checks the system.]
Perhaps. Are you carrying anything that may interfere with electronics? Have these problems occurred when you’ve used a terminal or another yimo?
no subject
You’re really taking this seriously, huh? [Not that he’s ungrateful, since he needs it.]
[...As for something that might interfere with electronics...] I'm carrying some tech... [That he hasn't left behind whenever he tries to use his yimo, come to think of it.]
[Sheepishly, he adds—] It's from home. [He slings his bag from his shoulder and opens it to reveal a bulky device that at first blush looks like a giant comma.] It's called a Duel Disk. Have you seen anything like it?
no subject
[He's always professional, but especially now to take up the slack from those weaklings who ran from their job and fully deserve the tongue-lashing he's going to give them later. Until then, he keeps his inquisitive, polite manner and focuses on the task at hand.
Tenn studies the object, but knows better than to touch alien tech. It doesn’t look familiar, and the overall design is such that he can't begin to guess the use. He'd ask the function of the device, but from talking to others about tech from their world, he knows it's a rabbit trail down a tangled path.]
I haven’t. But you said the terminals are unaffected? Would you be willing to carry another yimo for a while for testing purposes?
no subject
[He closes his bag and slings it back over his shoulder.]
Thanks! I’m Judai. You’re a Dreamperson too, right?
no subject
[A beta tech requesting a test unit shouldn't be an issue. If some Dreamfolk have technology that interferes with the function of the units, isn't it their job to look into these things?
He's still checking over the yimo system settings and updates, but he looks up to nod and offer a smile.]
I'm Tenn Kujo, and yes, I am. [The only humans in Aifaran are Dreamfolk, after all, so they're easy to recognize.] I haven't seen you before. Did you arrive recently?
no subject
[He's still totally not going to let go of his Duel Disk, though. He can put up with a lot of yimo-based grief before it comes to that...]
Nice to meetcha! I got here a few days ago. That means you've been here for a while, huh?
[He'd absorbed that Dreamfolk arriving was such a common occurrence that the Dreaming Bridge was set up to support them...he supposes different people get used to it in different ways.] You got a job here and everything?
no subject
[And yet here he is, taking over Customer Support like he owns it. But someone had to look into this and while he was here....]
Your yimo appears to be in good order, but I recommend using it alongside the test unit. [As he returns the yimo, Tenn lowers his voice.] If both malfunction, it's probable that something - your Duel Disk perhaps - is interfering with them. The technicians at Opara Core are eager to know about such things, and they can be overzealous. [That's Tenn's polite way of saying, "You may be mobbed."] If you require assistance, you may find me at the Dreaming Bridge.
no subject
[He snickers as he accepts the yimo back. So it's that kind of place, huh?] I'll be careful! [Though it might actually be too late, considering the technicians that had chosen to hide from him rather than run away might have spotted it already. But he appreciates the advance warning.]
You live at the Dreaming Bridge, too? I’m in room 6, Breakwater.
no subject
[A month… it seems like longer. Well, anyway, this is temporary until he leaves the Dreaming. Tenn pulls out his own yimo to send the request to the right department.
A pause. He doesn’t… expect a house call, does he? Things really work differently here. Tenn clears his throat lightly.] I’ll remember. Contact me over the yimo if tech support gives you trouble.
[If he needs help, that is; compared to the cliental Tenn has intercepted in the past weeks, Judai appears to be holding up remarkably. Tenn glances up from sending the report, curious.] You seem to be settling in well. Are you used to traveling?
no subject
[But then he laughs again.] Not going to give me your room number, are you? [He used to live in a dorm; knowing where other people are rooming is so normal to him that he doesn't think to question it.] If my yimo still doesn't work, you can find me there! [There isn't quite anything that Tenn would need him for, but hey.]
[He leans back on his feet at the question.] Kind of. [He did start to wander all over after he graduated. But that...isn't the real reason he isn't as flummoxed by this as others might be.] The first time I went to another dimension that I might not have been able to come back from, it was pretty bad. But this is a pretty nice place. Plus I might just be dreaming!
[And that makes a huge difference, apparently.] What about you, should I ask how you reacted at first?
no subject
[How he reacted... he was calm. Perhaps in denial, like this person may be. Or merely out of it. Tenn can't remember that day well. It was like landing in a (very) foreign county after a 10-hour flight with jetlag and no caffeine.]
I didn't think it was real. It would be nice if this was a dream, wouldn't it?
[But a dream where he works in tech support and theaters turn him away? It's a farce.]
no subject
[Unfortunately. Which is why, not even accounting for changes in Judai himself, this place is way better. He isn't worried about things like getting home for the moment.]
It might be more harmless if it was just a dream, but I think I wouldn't like waking up hungry. [Because what are priorities.]
You don't like it here?
no subject
[Tenn chuckles lightly at that.] I hope I won't be dreaming that long. [Unless he's in a coma in the hospital. There's a thought he didn't want to have. Harmless? It begs the question... there's so much he doesn't know.]
It's not that. I would have preferred free choice in coming here. Wouldn't you have liked to prepare first, too? [Throwing in with a smirk,] Eat a favorite food one last time? [Don't talk to him about omurice, please.]
no subject
But if you're talking about choice...I don't think I would have come here. [Despite settling in quickly, he's pretty done with traveling to other dimensions for the moment.] Preparing wouldn't have made a lot of difference.
[For one thing, he doesn't need any clothes or anything! (Right away, at least. But that why they were given some money, or so he assumes.)]
Guess I'm grateful that they make it easy. [...Malfunctioning yimos notwithstanding!]
no subject
Yes... they have. Even if we weren’t prepared, it was good to know someone was. [It's better than the alternative, isn't it? And yet people still panic on arrival. It’s one of many things Tenn would like to see changed. ... Well, that, and the quality of these tablets. Tenn falls quiet a moment while he sends in his report, and then returns his focus to Judai.]
I've sent in the request. This department knows me and should accommodate you. [If they don't, they'll wish they had. But for now, Tenn is all congenial smiles and a soft-spoken tone for the client.] Thank you for your patience. I hope your next unit fares better.
no subject
[But anyway—]
Hey, thanks! I really appreciate it! [With a little laugh and a little glance at the rest of the technicians, he adds—] I appreciated everyone else who tried to help, too. Tell them that, would you? Heh, I think they're avoiding me.
no subject
[A smile and a slight bow of his head.] I will. [And then he'll tell them more to really sink the guilt in deep.] The reception will be better at your next visit. It was nice to meet you, Judai.
