February Catch All
Characters: Danny and anyone
Date: Throughout February
Location: Various
Situation: Various
Warnings/Rating: None
A. Meet the Resident Ghost:
On random nights throughout the month, a certain ghost can be found exploring the city from the sky. From the sky, because in Danny's opinion there was no better way to get to know a new city. And at night, because he wasn't so sure what kind of reception this place would give ghosts. In Keeliai he'd gotten used to the idea that no one cared. Who knew what people thought about ghosts here.
Call up to him, and he might come down for a talk.
B. Give Us a Sign
Danny eyes the people from one of the local faiths who's just approached him with disbelief.
"Seriously? You think I bring good fortune? Me? This is a joke, right?"
C Whoops.
This was all too familiar.
Danny knew these whispers, the way people around him didn't meet his eyes and kept their distance. At least they weren't screaming and running away from him, but this wasn't much better.
And the worst part was that it wasn't even because of his ghost side. They didn't even know about it. No, this was because the little chirruping bird thing he could apparently summon now had hiccuped or something and shocked everything in the area. It hadn't even damaged anything!
But now he was stuck dealing with this.

D. Wildcard
A
How about less 'calling up to' and more 'passing by'? Rokuta had kept his exploratory runs to the night to be on the safe side, and since he so far hadn't either spotted anyone out and about this late at night, even less up in the air with him, he honestly didn't expect to have to rear aside.
Turning around, he blinked and tossed his head. So much for trying to be careful, though of course there wasn't much to connect him to his human form.
"Heh... didn't expect to see anyone else up here."
So there's what straight up looks like a unicorn hovering in the air a short distance away... what do you do?
Re: A
He reforms his ghostly tail into legs and walks a few steps back, as if he wasn't walking on thin air hundreds of feet above the ground.
"Uh, sorry about that? I don't usually run into people up here." Though speaking of the unicorns he'd run into before....
Danny blinks and looks sheepish. "Weird question, but you're not going to try and trample me now, right?"
no subject
"What? Why would I?" Rokuta can't quite grimace like this, but somehow he almost manages anyway, tossing his mane again and stomping a split hoof, though the latter makes no sound, obviously. "Even if you'd put yourself in my way deliberately, I wouldn't have!"
The idea's reprehensible, even more so since it's so specific, it sort of sounds like it comes from experience.
"... Happened before, or something?"

Ears flicking, Rokuta looks his impromptu companion over for a few seconds. If he could have, he'd have arched an eyebrow.
"Since I haven't noticed anything that implies this place got an abundance of spirits, or even things like youma... you one of the Dreamfolk, too?"
no subject
And sometimes it wasn't. He'd been around long enough to know that ghost descriptions didn't always match up between different worlds.
no subject
"So, huh... even dead people can be pulled through?"
That... was interesting, though it probably didn't mean anything. In a way, it made sort of sense if they entered through the Dream plane.
no subject
He'd rather not bring up the 'still half-alive' issue just yet. Or ever.
no subject
In more than one sense of the word, that was. But maybe Danny thought it was fine, who knew. It seemed like a good thing though... ghosts were hardly a sign of a spirit or nature in balance, and that was weirdly unsettling to consider that they could happen.
no subject
Although honestly, he'd been away from home so long he might even welcome a visit from the Box Ghost.
Maybe.
no subject
And that was much better avoided. The fact that them coming here seemed to have no automatic negative effect like shoku have was a great relief...
"So, what, you just out on a late night stroll, or stuck to the night..?" He cocked his head curiously and 'walked' a few steps closer, as if it were ground instead of air beneath his hooves. It was late enough, he thought, for ghosts to be about, if he remembered the stories whispered by his older siblings in an attempt to scare each other at night correctly. But who knew if that affected ghosts elsewhere... or a ghost pulled here from elsewhere.
no subject
One he didn't actually get paid for. But, details.
"Nah, I just like flying at night better." He gestures up at the sky. "I like watching the stars from up here. Plus, there's less people around at night to freak out at me."
no subject
Aside from being something of a necessity right now, just because he wants to be careful, they've always been some of his favourite pastimes.

no subject
Should a vaguely horse-and-deer looking face be able to look like it's raising eyebrows it doesn't exactly have? Maybe not, but he manages a reasonable facsimile of it.

Shaking his head, he looks around, then cocks it as he looks back at Danny.
"Night's not getting any younger, and it's clear. Want to race?" There's a certain tint of amused self-assurance in his voice that he can't hide; Rokuta knows exactly how fast he is... and so, he's sure of his own victory. Not that he'd be upset about losing, either, but, well.
no subject
"You sure you can keep up?"
The good-natured challenge in his tone was unmistakable, with perhaps a bit of self-mockery. Danny knew his own speed, but it had also been a long time since he had pushed himself.
no subject
Seemed like a good distance to him, and going from the land-side edge of Aifaran to around the harbour and back would make it a little more interesting, since the winds closer to the sea would be different.
no subject
"Sounds like a plan."
C
He spares a glance at the freaked-out people nearby, a small frown crossing his face, before it disappears. "That happened to me, too. Let's head somewhere else before they start something." Start what? He doesn't know himself.
"You're a..." What do they call it? "A Dreamperson, right?"
no subject
"Interesting is the right word. Don't get too close or he'll shock you."
Danny starts walking. "Yeah. Are you new here? I don't remember you from when everyone was moving in."
no subject
He peers a little closer, but takes Danny's advice and doesn't try to poke it.
"I guess I am new. I got here a few days ago. I'm Judai. Nice to meetcha!"
He glances at the bird again as he walks. "What's its name?"
no subject
"You too. I'm Danny. And I'm calling him Spooky."
no subject
["Spooky," though. He snickers.] That’s like a pet’s name!
no subject
I feed him, and he hangs around me whenever he's here. Sounds a lot like a pet to me.
no subject
[He knows a certain winged fuzzball that would disagree, but those creatures are different.]
Sounds like you only just met. Is it an animal like the bibirus, and the other people were running away from their shocking reputation?
no subject
[It cheeps again, and lets out a burst of static electricity that leaves Danny with all his hair standing on end.
He winces. Electricity and ghost energy didn't really mix that well.]
And then theres that.
no subject
Says the guy who was perpetually surrounded by ridiculous hair back home, not to speak of his own.][...Summon, though.] You can't tell?
no subject
I've never been able to summon before. [He shrugs.] I mean, what if it just looks like summoning and really it's just something completely different?
no subject
Do you have that problem a lot, though? What else could it be?
no subject
Actually this new one had been a lot less destructive than some of the others. He'd nearly frozen half the city while he was trying to figure out his ice ability, and don't even get him started on his intangibility.
But the one thing that they all had in common? Sometimes it was tough to tell what a new power was. Let alone figure out how to make it work. It wasn't like ghost powers came with a user's manual.
But it wasn't like he could say any of this.]
Me? Nah. This is the first time I've ever been able to do anything like this. But I guess I don't want to assume. What if hes the one summoning himself and he just shows up near me because I feed him?
no subject
True enough! And you don't want to stop feeding him to check, right? That would be cruel!
[He watches the little shocker for a bit.] ...But it's annoying whenever the shocks happen, right? There are places you might need to go... Hey, have you tried giving it commands or something?
no subject
[He winces.] I'm not really a fan of the whole electricity thing. Getting shocked is a pain. Literally.
[Plus there was the whole issue of his powers shorting out if he got too strong of a shock. It hadn't happened yet, and he was really hoping this guy didn't get any stronger.]
Commands? Like what? Roll over? Shake?
no subject
Maybe he just needs to discharge it once in a while. [He wasn't thinking of pet commands when he said it, but now that Danny brings it up, pets do get house-trained and everything.]
[He holds out his hand to Spooky.] Hop over!
no subject
[The bird stares at him and makes a peeping sound, but makes no attempt to move over.]
no subject
Maybe I didn't ask him right! He does seem pretty attached to you. Do you know how to train a pet?
no subject
[Okay, so it was a ghost puppy that was sort of trained already. But it still counted. ]
A
Then again, this small shinigami reflexively brings his sword out in a quick swipe when he notices him, eyes narrowing in suspicion as he takes in the 'ghost.
"...What are you doing."
no subject
"Flying?"
It sounded more like a question than a statement.
C
So, from behind him, he'll hear:
"Danny! It's so good to see you! Who's this little guy with you?"
no subject
He glances down at the white feathered puffball. "I'm calling him Spooky. He just kind of shows up now."
no subject
Following his gaze, she reaches out to the little bird. "Hello, Spooky. 'Just shows up', huh? Are you sure you don't Summon him?"
Yeah, she's seen a few others do this.
no subject
His smile turns more than a little wry. "Nah, its not really something I'm happy to be right about."
no subject
She sighs and her smile lessens. "Especially considering how much time passed?" She studies him for a moment.
"I know some people went back home before coming back here... Did that happen to you?"
no subject
Danny makes a face.
"No, I never made it back. As far as I can tell, I just spent the whole time asleep in the Dreaming."
no subject
She grimaces slightly.
"Neither did I." A pause. "Have you heard anything about Tu Vishan?"
no subject
He shakes his head.
"Not a thing so far."
no subject
At his response to her question, she frowns.
'Damn. I haven't, either. Turtles are supposed to be long-lived. I hope he's okay."
She grew fond of the turtle, okay?
