I was born with lightning in my heels | March Catchall
Characters: Pepper Potts, Devin Parker, and you!
Date: Throughout March
Location: Around Aifaran
Situation: Pepper and Devin are getting used to their new jobs. Pepper has an encounter with building materials, goes on patrol, and walks into a bad neighborhood. Devin deals with some personal issues and gets followed around by a pack of inan.
Warnings/Rating: None yet, will add as needed
A. [Pepper] Verdant Sentry - Justice 5 | Open
Pepper has been dutifully studying and basically trying to be the absolute best recruit possible (she may be trying to skip a few steps in this process given her existing skills), and has apparently had a reasonably good impression. They're not letting her run the place yet, but some members of the Sentry have asked her to describe the legal system back home. Apparently, they're intrigued enough that they take her on a few patrols and ask her what police would do, on at least one occasion she's out and about with them wearing the Rescue armor.
B. [Pepper] Sci-Tech 1 | Open
As cool as flying is to get to know the city, it's important to explore on the ground level, too. Pepper is exploring an area where some construction is ongoing. This is normal, for her. New York City almost always had some sort of construction going on, and the scaffolding is a familiar sight. The sudden alarmed yelling as she walks underneath it, however, is new. Before she even has time to properly process what's happening, her ka appears in front of her. The Knight catches the large hammer that threatened to land on Pepper's head, and is shooting an annoyed look at the workmen above them.
C. [Pepper] Crime 1 | Open
Apparently, this is not a great place to wander into. She's on the outskirts of the city as dusk is falling, and Pepper has a very certain sense of being watched and possibly even followed. Perhaps counter to expectation, she is not all that worried. The dagger Solomon gave her is in her boot, Vee is but a thought away, and she's got enough training to be hard to handle. The utter lack of concern on her part appears to have hooked an actual tail, but she doesn't increase her pace.
D. [Devin] Dreaming Bridge | Leo
Most of the time when Devin is not working at the Academy library, he's either in his room or somewhere else quiet where he can read and remain mostly undisturbed. He's not avoiding people per se, but he's not being particularly social, either. The incident with Trahearne and Klaus is still weighing on him. As a result, the vampire is sometimes less antagonistic than he was last month - although sometimes more. Today is one of those days when his roommates are gone long enough that he can have a little peace and quiet, and therefore is probably in a reasonable mood.
E. [Devin] Somewhere Serving Classy Alcohol | Klaus
While Devin can't really afford the amount of alcohol required to get drunk, he does enjoy the flavor of good liquor and isn't opposed to savoring it from time to time. Recent events have certainly been enough to want to take the edge off things, but even if he can't Devin tends to like the atmosphere of older, well-established bars. The lighting is warm, and there's a small booth in a corner that Devin claims so he can see most of the establishment while he sips at a dark, amber-colored drink.
F. [Devin] Metaphysics 3 | Open
He's going to complain to Leo about this. After the young man foisted the cat-like creature on him and refused to take no for an answer, Devin has had to figure out how to be a pet owner. This meant, predictably, a lot of research, and since the inan displays a reasonable amount of intelligence, Devin decides to start training it. He's in one of the city parks working on getting it to come when called when suddenly there's a small pack of the things that seem to want to use Devin as their own personal jungle gym. The vampire is baffled, but he allows the attention and even carefully tries to return it when they let him. One does nip at him, but it's too gentle to break skin, and Devin actually laughs.

ehehehe
"Well... kind of by accident. At least Vee appearing the first time was," she begins, gesturing for them to move out of the construction area where there's less risk of falling tools. "I don't have magic in my world. Sometimes Dreamfolk are able to learn non-native magic, and even though I didn't have any to begun with, I wanted to try. My boyfriend started teaching me how to use his - Shadow magic. There's actually a card game based on it, called Duel Monsters," Pepper relates, utterly unaware of who she is talking to and how much he already knows. She digs into her bag, pulling out the crimson duelist gauntlet, identical to those used during Duelist Kingdom. It tingles faintly under her fingers, like always. "I still couldn't summon on my own until this showed up. It acts as a power source for me, and the deck I have is like an anchor."
it's beautiful
He holds the rest of his fanboying in check as he looks up at Vee. He'd already kind of known that she wasn't a Duel Spirit, but that explanation clinches it.
"Duel Monsters, huh? What kind of deck do you use?"
no subject
"Um, sure," she says after a moment, holding out the glove. "It'll kind of feel a little like there's a bunch of static all over it. At least is does for me."
Oh, this whole conversation has taken on a hugely different meaning. "My deck is a hodge-podge, since I had to put it together from cards that show up here every so often. I make it work," she answers with a hint of pride. "So, you're from where Duel Monsters comes from? Have you been playing long? Is Kaiba still lording fancy tech over everyone?"
no subject
“Uh—“ At the questions, he looks up. “I don’t...know?” Between Desert and Dark Worlds, plus the world in his memories...he can’t say with confidence that he’s from the world Duel Monsters comes from. “I do know someone named Kaiba, but I never met him!”
He hands the gauntlet back. “Closest I got was dueling his deck. How do you know about him?”
no subject
"Well, he was here, for a little while. Only a couple of months," she clarifies, taking the gauntlet and fiddling with the fabric. It's been so rare for anyone who knows about Duel Monsters to come to Konru, so this could be a really cool opportunity. "He was super against believing in magic even when it was right in front of his face. I think I've heard more about him from my boyfriend than Kaiba shared with me in person, honestly. They crossed paths a couple times. Does his deck still have eight million dragons in it? Did you win? Oh, hey, did your deck come with you here? You might be able to summon creatures without any tech," Pepper says, grinning up at Vee.
There's going to keep being questions, Judai.
no subject
He scratches his head at the questions about the guy who technically founded (...funded? He doesn't, er, pay the best attention in class) his school; he seriously doesn't know. And him disappearing for a length of time would be the kind of big deal that Duel Academia of all places would surely have received news of, never mind the rest of the world. There's something odd about that...
But as for the actual questions— "Uh, I think so. There were only the three that are famous, though. It was pretty rough!" And he so didn't win.
The conjecture about summoning gives him pause, and his hand unconsciously twitches toward his pack, where his Duel Disk is. He's been able to summon Monsters into reality for some time now, but... "Well, uh. Can your boyfriend summon without one?"
no subject
Until she can discuss this with Bakura, she's going to err on the side of discretion about how powerful he is.
"Yeah, although his circumstances are... really, seriously different than most people's. It's kind of innate, with him, even back home." He didn't even technically need cards to summon, and the Ring is it's own set of conversational hoops to avoid jumping through. "You two should meet sometime," Pepper decides cautiously. Vee's eyebrows go up, like she's not sure how great a plan that is. "I'll bet he'd be interested in hearing about what you know. I wonder how much time there is between when you're from and when he's from," she ponders absently, tapping her chin. "It's always hard to tell, unless you get people in the same room."
no subject
It means thinking about it is making his head hurt.
So he won't!
"Different, huh?" He can relate to that, sort of. Summoning Monsters into reality isn't really...a thing, back home, never mind what it took to get there.
"Sounds like an interesting guy." Shadow magic, she'd said...it's not something he's familiar with. Sounds interesting, anyway, though he does have his reservations. Barring his relatively new ability, the last time he was in a place where Duel Monsters had physical forms, it hadn't been...altogether pleasant. "I might have to ask him some things, too."
He looks up at Vee. "Ka, you called her, huh? Do you have her card?"
no subject
"Yeah, one sec. He's a bit prickly, just as a heads up. Don't let it deter you," Pepper says as she reaches into her bag for her deck. She doesn't have to look through it to know which card belongs to the Knight; it sticks out to her now like a beacon, which probably explained why the card surfaced so often when she needed it before Vee even materialized in Konryu.
"Here." She hands him the card. Vee shifts slightly, more curiosity on her face than suspicion. "How much do you know about the Egyptian concept of the soul?"
no subject
Unless it's a soul reincarnated across dimensions, or something...like...that...
"Are you saying you have an Egyptian soul?"
He glances up at Vee. "She's connected to this card, isn't she? There are things in my world called Duel Spirits, but she's not one, I don't think." Though Duel Spirits do tend to be unavoidably linked to the Duelist in some way.
