Situation: A large influx of Dreamfolk arrive in time for one of the Lunar Festivals, and they're all invited!

A surprising amount of Dreamfolk have arrived within a short time frame - a peculiarity remarked upon by a number of Aifaran's residents. It is unusual in that it coincides with a lunar festival, one which only happens every fifty or so years.

Newcomers will find the streets packed with all sorts of people, stalls of fried and sugared foods, carnivalesque games and rides, and all other manner of things to do. Merchants are very keen to get their wares out there, and the stipend given may just burn a hole in your pocket when you see what's for sale.

[Chase just wants to get the selys to stop eating his jacket, so he strolls right over to the handlers and drops Hibiki's friend (almost literally) off with one of them.]

[He strolls back with less urgency, but he takes a glance at her neck from where he is.]

You should get your medicine. [Like, right now.]

[ Hibiki inclines her head. ] Tea is also required.

[ From the edge in her voice, that one....might take prioritea.

Is there still a tea stall at this event...? ]

[Luckily for the both of them, someone with a pushcart for tea is just passing by.]

[Chase just wordlessly stares intensely at it.]

[ .....Ah.

Hibiki turns on her heel and heads after it. ] You. Well timed. I'll have you serve me immediately...

[ All's well that ends well? ]

[He follows along behind her, because he was given this thing called money, and if that doesn't work, he might be needed to intimidate the tea-seller. (A pushcart for tea strikes him as vaguely weird, but he pushes that out of his mind.)]

[Tea is a kind of medicine...he files that knowledge away for later.] You know the correct dosage?

Of course.

[ She doesn't dispute the terminology. Tea is every bit as necessary for her continued survival as any more strictly medicinal tincture.

Back to the seller. ]

Prepare a cup of your highest-quality blend.

[ The dosage is "strong" and the components are "snob." ]

[Chase doesn't know much about snobs tea, so it seems only logical to him to get the highest quality. Experience has taught him that quality doesn't come without a price, however, so he takes a look at the prices.]

[...That is a "110." If he recalls correctly, he was only given fifty...]

How much did they pay you?

It's in direct deposit.

[ She set up an account for that and everything. After all, now that she has appeared in the entertainment scene, there will be many more such jobs for Shikyoin Hibiki. ]

[That takes care of that, then.]

Good. [And with that, he starts to leave. Manners, what manners?]

[ Oh, he's leaving. Very well. Hibiki shall just pay for her tea, and...

Really, she has distressingly little cash on hand and will have to remedy that. ]

[...He'd assumed humans paid with cards that they put their direct deposits in.]

[And here's him coming back.] You are Dreamfolk.

[Chase has had A Realization, you see. A realization that he's been working off that assumption all along...]

The temperament of that creature should have been unknown to you.

Nothing is unusual for a genius.

[ Genius who will pay with debit IF SHE MUST. There are not nearly enough adjectives attached to this card program for it to properly suit her. Things like "platinum", "premium", "exclusive".

She'll have to see about upgrading. ]

[He stares in puzzlement for a second, because he finds himself unable to connect those two things—trusting an unknown creature and being a genius—but he supposes that the selys wasn't malicious, in the end.]

How did you know it was not an unusual selys? [To use humans as an example, there are those who are not malicious, but there are also those who hurt.]

Would any but the best go into show business?

[ Tea! Hibiki takes a sip and promptly scalds the roof of her mouth because she was impatient to do something about her throat. She recovers quickly, however. ]

...Are you...really alright?

[Maybe he shouldn't leave her alone for a while... She looks human but maybe she is a species that acts in a way that he can't predict. He is himself a human-looking non-human who wasn't programmed with human emotions, after all.]

If there is someplace you need to go, I will walk you there.

[ A longer, more worthy sip this time. Still too hot, but - yes. This flavor combination is new to her, and vibrant! There really is a difference when one settles for nothing but the best. ]

I'm all right. Your concern is unwarranted.

[ Though if you keep fussing, she won't be able to forget the whole snake hair thing happened. Which, frankly, is a top priority right now. ]

[Chase isn't one to keep pressing the issue, and she has her medicine and the selys is no longer near her, so he supposes things will be alright. Besides, their lodgings aren't that far away.]

[ Hibiki's response to that is to take a long, luxurious, dramatically long, silent sip of tea.
