[EVENT] Moon and Mirrors (Welcome Mingle Log)

Characters: ALL
Date: January 15
Location: At the Dreaming Bridge and all over Aifaran!
Situation: A large influx of Dreamfolk arrive in time for one of the Lunar Festivals, and they're all invited!
Warnings/Rating: N/A

A surprising amount of Dreamfolk have arrived within a short time frame - a peculiarity remarked upon by a number of Aifaran's residents. It is unusual in that it coincides with a lunar festival, one which only happens every fifty or so years.

Newcomers will find the streets packed with all sorts of people, stalls of fried and sugared foods, carnivalesque games and rides, and all other manner of things to do. Merchants are very keen to get their wares out there, and the stipend given may just burn a hole in your pocket when you see what's for sale.

Devin approaches Kit from his left, which must be how he's able to creep up on him so efficiently without Kit catching on. The dwarf startles when Devin speaks, and the bibiru tucked into his backpack gives its uninjured wing a little flap as it resettles.

"Sodding--" the dwarf starts, shoots Devin a look, then seems to relax as soon as he realizes he's in no immediate danger of being attacked. Then follows chagrin. "Sorry," he mutters, and gestures upward, "Deaf in my left ear."

Apparently whatever brought him to this place couldn't see fit to fix his damn ear, though it could cure him of death.

"I don't know," he goes on, picking up the threads of what Devin was saying, and just assumes he's talking about the missing Kin'nal girl; they all are, aren't they? "The longer you let this shit go, the greater the chance they just don't come home." There's a pained edge of experience in his voice, though he seems to waver some, considering the wisdom in what Devin says. He's been on his feet all day. He's exhausted.

Still. Giving up doesn't seem right.

The vampire's eyebrows rise a little at the dwarf's startle, but the hearing problem explains some of it. A potentially useful detail to note for later. "I'm quieter than most people."

The way he talks about the Kin'nal girl, however--

"You've seen other children lost," Devin surmises. "In all likelihood, this isn't a kidnapping situation. At least, not a traditional one. Based on the temporary disappearances, I'd wager that something a bit less tangible is at work." His tone isn't one of commiseration, but of neutral assessment. "But if there is something to be found, you'll be of more use when you aren't run ragged."
