[EVENT] Moon and Mirrors (Welcome Mingle Log)

Characters: ALL
Date: January 15
Location: At the Dreaming Bridge and all over Aifaran!
Situation: A large influx of Dreamfolk arrive in time for one of the Lunar Festivals, and they're all invited!
Warnings/Rating: N/A

A surprising amount of Dreamfolk have arrived within a short time frame - a peculiarity remarked upon by a number of Aifaran's residents. It is unusual in that it coincides with a lunar festival, one which only happens every fifty or so years.

Newcomers will find the streets packed with all sorts of people, stalls of fried and sugared foods, carnivalesque games and rides, and all other manner of things to do. Merchants are very keen to get their wares out there, and the stipend given may just burn a hole in your pocket when you see what's for sale.

1. Quayside Wing

[ Danny checks the number on the door one more time before he enters the room. He wasn't sure what he expect, but it probably wasn't to see someone he kind of recognized. ]

Hey, it was Miles, right?

2. Festival

[ Danny heads straight for the food at the festival. The rest of it could wait. If he was going to be stuck doing this all over again, he was doing it with lots of and lots of fair food. ]

[There's another Dreamfolk at one of the nearby food stands, and from the back, it looks like they're observing the wares closely. Their hair glints in the light, looking like a crystal but moving like nothing of the sort.

After a few moments, though, they straighten up with a soft laugh, starting to turn away, revealing an open shirt and uneven spots of red-orange gem in their torso. It's only when they spot the nearby human that they offer any sort of reason for their reaction.]

Well, well. You little ones must like your "food" beautiful. [The stand they turned from is filled with delicate sugared foods.]

Uh... I'm not sure if beautiful and fair food are two things that normally go together.

Maybe that's my lack of experience talking, but this one seems to value their craft. [Padparadscha indicates the stall properly - there's a display dotted with what appear to be colourful sugared almonds, and others with delicately shaped candies. Perhaps not all that much by human standards, but to Padparadscha, it seems odd to give that much thought to food at all.]

But I suppose you're talking about the misshapen brown messes I've seen some of the others making, huh?

Mostly. That seem to be more the usual thing at fairs like this.

[He gestures at the greasy fried... something on a paper plate in his hand.]

[That certainly is...an object, and it makes Padparadscha laugh for an entirely different reason as they lean down a bit to look at it.]

Are you even sure that one's food anymore? It looks very sad and sorry.

Danny shrugs.

"Technically? I'm pretty sure its still food. The edibility might be questionable."

[Padparadscha's amused smile pulls out a little more at that answer.]

Ah, well, that's one thing to know about humans, isn't it? That they'll put things they're not even sure are food in their bodies.

[Danny couldn't really argue with that.]

Only if its fried. Or has a lot of sugar.

Still, not-food is not-food, isn't it? Do those things make it more enjoyable?

[Gems tend to enjoy strong sunlight just for the sake of it, even besides the energy it gives them. Maybe humans are the same with food.]

General rule of junk food. The less healthy something is for you, the better it tastes.

"Junk food", huh? I guess at least it's an accurate name. Maybe I should be grateful that good sunlight feels good to my people.

[It's their equivalent of healthy sustenance, though it's hard to have "unhealthy" light as opposed to just light too faint to sustain them.]

Your people?

[Sure, this guy looked a little weird. But half the people Danny knew back home were green and glowed in the dark. His definition of normal was a little skewed. ]

Gems. We sustain ourselves on sunlight the way animals do with food.

[By way of further explanation, Padparadscha taps their chest with a fist. Their shirt is open, so the shimmering patches on their torso are already visible, but the hollow, crystalline sound their tapping against themselves makes is difficult to mistake as anything but a gem impacting another gem.

[ Elizabeth is also in line for the next batch of something sweet and sinfully deep-fried, and the stall owner lets them know it's going to be a few more minutes until its done. She smiles brightly at Danny. ]

They must sell out very quickly, at this rate!

[He shrugs and smiles back at her.]

If people are lining up like this, at least the odds are good we found some decent food.
