Situation: A large influx of Dreamfolk arrive in time for one of the Lunar Festivals, and they're all invited!

A surprising amount of Dreamfolk have arrived within a short time frame - a peculiarity remarked upon by a number of Aifaran's residents. It is unusual in that it coincides with a lunar festival, one which only happens every fifty or so years.

Newcomers will find the streets packed with all sorts of people, stalls of fried and sugared foods, carnivalesque games and rides, and all other manner of things to do. Merchants are very keen to get their wares out there, and the stipend given may just burn a hole in your pocket when you see what's for sale.

[ Shiny metal bits, for sure. Definitely the shiny metal bits.

The selys, lacking eyelids, stares back. It begins craning its neck closer to Chase, to see exactly what is going on over there. Something interesting, maybe?

Hibiki stills her breath. It just needs to loosen its grip on her. She only needs a moment... ]

[He doesn’t blink while the selys stares as well, even when he stops waving the little bike around and maintains eye contact.]

[As he has no idea what the selys is looking at, he shifts a bit, making the shiny metal bits sway just a little. A few of the bits catch the glint of the sun...]

[ Shiny bits. The selys loosens its grip on Hibiki -

And just as she goes to grab it and remove it from her hair, it lets go of its own accord to dart forward towards the buttons. While still around Hibiki's neck. ]

Hrk!

[Alarmed, he reaches out to grab the selys, in an attempt to stop it from yanking on Hibiki.]

Don't move.

[Now he's talking to both of them, though whether the selys can understand is up for debate.]

You expect me t--

[ The selys strains. ]

Ggk.

[ Hibiki is holding still now. But the selys is intent enough on that button it won't react to the hand coming towards it. ]

[He glances at her once—the only signal he thinks to give—and then grabs the selys in one motion.]

I've got it. Unwind it from you.

[With him holding it near the jaw, hopefully the selys doesn't just decide to hang on tight with the rest of its muscles.]

[ Nope, it goes loose in confusion. Hibiki hurriedly unloops the selys from around her neck and then rubs at that portion of her anatomy, gasping for breath.

Give her...a moment. She'll be...fine. ]

Hhh....

[ Here, take the rest of this snake. She doesn't want it anymore. ]

[He pulls the selys away from her.]

[In lieu of asking whether she's alright, he just...peers at her. For one thing, she's obviously not alright. He doesn't know what to do, though.]

Do you need...a medic?

[ Hibiki continues to rub at her neck, assessing its situation. As a performer, her throat is priceless - it's the means by which she grants her audience a luxurious experience. ]

Medicine should suffice.

[ Something to keep bruising down. Her throat itself, however....

Tea. ]

Good.

[Hope that wasn’t an expectation for him to actually get the medicine, Hibiki... Chase doesn’t understand those kinds of subtleties well. Especially with a snake on his hands.]

Why were you wearing this...?

They're fashionable.

[ But ill-behaved. Ugh. Her poor throat. What if it bruises? She'll be irritated for days. Her life is so hard. ]

I did a spot of modeling, you see.

[driverslicense]

[...Nope, he still doesn't understand. By now he's caught a glimpse of the other models, but why any of them would do that is—]

[The selys has looped around to try to eat one of the decorative chains on his jacket.]

[Welp.]

...I will bring this back. [He looks at her expectantly, because he doesn't he doesn't know who to bring it back to.]

The handlers are over there. [ Hibiki indicates a cluster of folks in the process of polishing another selys, who is preening with the attention, gleaming faintly.

None of them were watching. Hibiki frowns. ]

Honestly. Don't any of them realize its incompetence....

[Chase just wants to get the selys to stop eating his jacket, so he strolls right over to the handlers and drops Hibiki's friend (almost literally) off with one of them.]

[He strolls back with less urgency, but he takes a glance at her neck from where he is.]

You should get your medicine. [Like, right now.]

[priforprince]

[ Hibiki inclines her head. ] Tea is also required.

[ From the edge in her voice, that one....might take prioritea.

Is there still a tea stall at this event...? ]

[Luckily for the both of them, someone with a pushcart for tea is just passing by.]

[Chase just wordlessly stares intensely at it.]

[ .....Ah.

Hibiki turns on her heel and heads after it. ] You. Well timed. I'll have you serve me immediately...

[ All's well that ends well? ]

[He follows along behind her, because he was given this thing called money, and if that doesn't work, he might be needed to intimidate the tea-seller. (A pushcart for tea strikes him as vaguely weird, but he pushes that out of his mind.)]

[Tea is a kind of medicine...he files that knowledge away for later.] You know the correct dosage?

[priforprince]

Of course.

[ She doesn't dispute the terminology. Tea is every bit as necessary for her continued survival as any more strictly medicinal tincture.

Back to the seller. ]

Prepare a cup of your highest-quality blend.

[ The dosage is "strong" and the components are "snob." ]

[Chase doesn't know much about snobs tea, so it seems only logical to him to get the highest quality. Experience has taught him that quality doesn't come without a price, however, so he takes a look at the prices.]

[...That is a "110." If he recalls correctly, he was only given fifty...]

How much did they pay you?

It's in direct deposit.

[ She set up an account for that and everything. After all, now that she has appeared in the entertainment scene, there will be many more such jobs for Shikyoin Hibiki. ]

[That takes care of that, then.]

Good. [And with that, he starts to leave. Manners, what manners?]

Why is--

[ Oh, he's leaving. Very well. Hibiki shall just pay for her tea, and...

Really, she has distressingly little cash on hand and will have to remedy that. ]

[driverslicense]

[...He'd assumed humans paid with cards that they put their direct deposits in.]

[And here's him coming back.] You are Dreamfolk.

[Chase has had A Realization, you see. A realization that he's been working off that assumption all along...]

The temperament of that creature should have been unknown to you.

Nothing is unusual for a genius.

[ Genius who will pay with debit IF SHE MUST. There are not nearly enough adjectives attached to this card program for it to properly suit her. Things like "platinum", "premium", "exclusive".

She'll have to see about upgrading. ]
